Ladbrokes World Championship Final Preview
Tuesday's final of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championships is the most anticipated since the 2007 epic between Barneveld and Taylor, and there are some similarities between the two, for one Phil Taylor is involved again and this time he will be facing another Dutchman in the form of Michael van Gerwen.
Taylor is perhaps looking slightly more vulnerable than back in 2007 having averaged in the low 90s during his early round matches, but his later performances have been much more impressive, he demolished Robert Thornton 4-0, Andy Hamilton 5-0 and despite a few antics at the end of his semi final with Raymond van Barneveld he had enough in the tank to see off the man who had defeated him back in 2007.
Michael van Gerwen for his part has been awesome during the last six months and never more so then during this World Championships, he eliminated Adrian Lewis, despite the defending champion averaging over 100. He also put in an impressive performance in the semi-finals, landing a nine-darter and then throwing eight perfect darts in the next leg, narrowly missing the D12 for back-to-back nine-darters. He eventually overcame a gritty Wade 6-4 to set up the much anticipated clash with Taylor.
So the clash that many fans wanted to see is set to happen and what a great way it will be to start off 2013, there could be a pair of 100+ averages, there could be a nine-darter, there could be multiple nine-darters or it could fizzle out and end up a Taylor whitewash, but if Michael van Gerwen turns up in the form he has showed over the last six months then it will be a final to remember
