Phil Taylor Claims 13th World Matchplay Darts Title

 
Phil Taylor claimed a record breaking 13th World Matchplay title at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool on Sunday 29th July 2012. Taylor overcame a determined James Wade who had been in superb form all week to claim an 18-15 victory in the final.
 
Taylor had previousely defeated Mervyn King, Ian White, Andy Hamilton and a resurgent Ronnie Baxter in the tournaments earlier rounds. Phil had changed to a new dart for the early stages of the championships, but reverted to his Phase 5 darts after a below par performance against Ian White
 
Taylor has now won the Matchplay 13 times, and equalled his own record of 5 consecutive victories at the prestigious event. Wade put up the most resistance of all Phil's final opponents, the only other player to get past 12 legs against The Power was double World Champion John Part
